Kemper Gilmer Meade, age 81, of Bristol, VA, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006. at Grace Health Care in Abingdon, VA.
Mr. Meade was a native of Lebanon, VA and had made his home in Bristol most of his life. He was the son of the late Stuart and Lillie Farmer Meade. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary June Howell Meade, a sister, Lucy Meade McFadden and a brother Stewart Meade, Jr.
Mr. Meade was a U.S.Navy Seabee and a veteran of World War II. He was retired from Valley Packers in Bristol, VA. He enjoyed Nascar, camping and watching the Atlanta Braves. His dog Smokey was his best friend.
Survivors include one daughter Cathy Meade Hart and husband Alan, of Bristol, TN; two sons, Kemper Neal Meade and wife Rhonda Bentley Meade of Mendota, VA, and Gilmer Wayne Meade and wife Rhonda Stark Meade of Bristol, VA; four grandchildren, Michael Alan Hart and wife Serenah, Angela Renee Hart, Natalie Meade and Haley Meade; four sisters, Virginia Almany of Bristol, TN, Evelyn Carty and husband Bill, and Maida Hawkins, all of Bristol, VA., and Carrie White and Shirley Chafin and husband R.C., all of Lebanon, VA; two brothers, Otto Meade and Marshall Meade and wife Phyllis, all of Lebanon, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 26, 2006 at the graveside in Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Burnette officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday at Akard Funeral Home in Bristol, TN.
