In 1781 at the close of The Revolutionary War, Jack decided to join his stepfather at Yorktown. Young Jack was among the hundreds of men to die of "Camp Fever". His body was taken to Mount Vernon for burial. Following his death, Jack's two youngest children, Eleanor and George, were unofficially adopted by George and Martha Washington and raised at Mount Vernon. With the victory at Yorktown, the war was over. George Washington became the 1st US President in 1789.
