Rev. Dr. John J. Brown was the husband of Sarah (White) Brown. He was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: Genesee (now Western New York) Conference 1845 Discontinued 1846 East Genesee Conference 1848 F 1850 New York Conference by change of boundariess 1872 Genesee Conference by transfer 1875 East Genesee Conference at reorganization and to Genesee Conference by consolidation 1876. During that time he served: Canadice and Richmond 1848 - Avoca 1849 - Hammondsport 1850 - Cohocton 1851 - Prattsburgh 1852-1853 - Naples 1854-1855 - Clifton Springs 1856 - Prof. of natural sciences at Dansville Seminary 1857-1858 - Principal of Dansville Seminary 1859-1864 - Principal of East Genesee Conference Seminary at Ovid 1865 - Prof. of natural sciences at Falley Seminary at Fulton 1866-1869 - Prof. of chemistry and industrial mechanics at Cornell University 1870 - Prof. of physics and chemistry at Syracuse University 1871-1890. He also was editor for 5 years of "Humphrey's Journal of Photography." and editor for 11 years of the scientific department of the Northern Christian Advocate.

BROWN.--Died in this city, on the 15th inst., Prof. J. J. Brown, aged 71 years and 6 months. Funeral services at the late residence, 90 University avenue, Monday afternoon, the 17th at 4 o'clock. Friends are invited. The remains will be taken to Springwater, Livingston county, for interment.
