US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served Pennsylvania's 14th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1981 to 2003. After receiving a Catholic School education, he attained his Bachelor of Science degree from Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh. Following service with the United States Army, he worked as an accountant and launched his political career when he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1970. He went onto serve in Pittsburgh's City Council. During his tenure in Congress, he served on the House Ways and Means Committee and spearheaded efforts for tax relief in the form of credits for the lower class. He died of complications due to a fall.
