LESTER E. OGILVY died peacefully on December 24, 2011 in Tucson, AZ.

He had moved to Tucson in December, 2007 to be with his son and family after spending more than 60 years in Washington, D.C.

Les was born on May 19, 1915 in Berea, Ohio and as a young boy he delivered The Cleveland Plain Dealer. After attending Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, where he received a varsity letter in Tennis, he graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1936. He then received a Master's Degree at The Catholic University of America in Washington.

He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy during World War II, leaving the service in the late 1950s. He retired as a Commander from the Naval Reserve and began a career in the U.S. government, working in senior-level positions in FHA, VISTA, and HUD. He retired in 1970.

Les was a devoted Washington Redskin fan. His late wife Virginia, his high school sweetheart in Berea, and he attended all of the Super Bowl games in which the Redskins played. He was also a fan of both the UNC Tar Heels, the George Washington University Colonial basketball teams, and upon moving to Tucson, University of Arizona sports.

Virginia and Les were excellent bridge and tennis players. They belonged to The Edgemoor Tennis Club, and Columbia Country Club. They were members of Foundry Methodist Church and Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret (Don) Franz of Ladue, MO; his son, David (Liz) of Tucson, AZ; his sister, Mary Ogilvy Gensler of Rocky River, OH; niece, Paula Gensler Betty of Denver, CO; three step-grandsons, John Alexander, Stephen Alexander, Thomas Alexander and three step-great- grandchildren, Ryan, Catie and Henry.

Private Services will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to TMC Hospice, Tucson Medical Center, 5301 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85712 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements handled by HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME.
