Actor, Director, Writer. He is remembered as a pioneer in the American film industry starting in 1913 with his first roles in silent movie “shorts” or a film that was only about fifteen minutes long: “The Buffer,” “The Flirt,” and “A Sure Cure.” He was born “Charles Doblin” and credited as that name in some productions. He was described as a light comedian. Before films, he appeared in the original stage productions of “The Wife” in 1887, “Vanderbilt Cup” and “Mistakes Will Happen” in 1906, and “Hundredth Man” in 1913. In his last play, “The Great Gatsby,” in 1926, he had the role of an old gambler. Other films, which were done in 1915 ,were the short “The Little Miss Brown” and the movie “Sunday” and “The Siren's Song. In 1916, he directed two shorts, “Dear Percy” and “Movie Money.” He also had a role in “An American Widow” in 1917. In 1918, he wrote the story for the movie “Good Night Paul.” In 1891 he married actress Lillian Burkhart, they were in the same productions, and by the turn of the century were divorced. He wrote the 1908 musical play “The Three Twins” in which actress Bessie McCoy sang her signature song, “The Yama Yama Man.”
