U.S. Congressman. He attended the French Academy at Montreal, Canada, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1790 and practiced law in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was Herkimer County Clerk (1791-98), Oneida County Clerk (1798-1802) and a member of the New York State Assembly in 1796. In 1799, he was elected as a Federalist to the Sixth Congress, serving until 1801. After his term, he resumed the practice of law and was a General of Cavalry in the New York State Militia. He was a member of the New York State Senate (1810-13), served as associate justice on the New York Supreme Court (1814-21) and was a delegate to the New York Constitutional Convention in 1821. He died at age 64 in Peru, New York.
