National Guard officer. Edward C. Johnson was named for his maternal grandfather. According to the 1926 and 1928 Biennial Reports of the Vermont Adjutant General, he was a Lieutenant in the Vermont National Guard's Quartermaster Corps, serving under his father, who was the Adjutant General. According to his death certificate, he was single and employed full time as a salesman when he died at Montpelier's Heaton Hospital after contracting polio.
