Rev. Roswell Canfield was the son of Rev. Asher and Rhoby (Whipple) Canfield. He was the husband of Violetta Victoria (Knapp) Canfield. They were married January 27, 1858. Violetta died February 6, 1911. Rev. Canfield was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York) Conference 1854 F 1856 Located 1860 Genesee Conference 1871 F1873. He served during the Civil War. He enlisted Oakfield, NY October 13, 1864 - mustered out Arlington Heights, VA July 1, 1865.
