Ray retired from the City of Detroit Fire Department in 1985 with the rank of Captain. He served as a U.S. Marine during WWII in the South Pacific and was wounded on the island of Saipan in June, 1944. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a love for the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Lord Tennyson. He is survived by his wife; daughter; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grand daughters.
