Nell "Nellie" May Barrow was born December 5th 1905.
Although she was the younger sister (by 9 months) to Marvin "Buck" Barrow and the older sister of Clyde Barrow (by 3.5 years) she had 2 other sisters and 2 other brothers. She was raised in a big family and she had her share of duties caring for her younger siblings.
Nell was born 8 months-21 days after her brother Buck, in the same year 1905.
Nellie and Clyde we're very close growing up and favored each other. Nell's love, charm and spirit affected a young Clyde growing up as she was undoubtedly his favorite "go-to" Sis on any situation that required Nell's love and support.
Nell was instrumental in slowing down her younger brother Clyde and trying desperately to get her beloved brother on the right road by finding him a good work contact up north willing to hire Clyde after his release from prison. Clyde was released and went up north to work but he quit on his own accord after three months. Whether home-sick, love-sick we'll never know with Clyde.
In late 1934, Nell went on to write about her brother Clyde in the book "Fugitives" she helped co-authored with her mother Cumie and Emma Parker, Bonnie's mother.
After the published book, Nell work with her sister Artie in the beauty business for some time.
Nell was married three times, around 1925 she married Leon Hale, then around 1928 she married Luther Cowan, finally she married Wyatt Francis some time around 1931 and the couple stayed together their entire lives.
Nell and Wyatt lived in Dallas County their entire lives.
Nell never had any children.
Nell died from ALS, (known as Lou Gehrig disease) in November 1968 at age 62, 3-weeks shy of her 63rd birthday.
