Mrs. T. B. Howe
In Bridgeport, Conn, Jan. 20, 1927, Mrs. Jane Howe, aged 98 years.

Mrs. Howe was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Loomis and was born Feb. 29, 1828, in the house on Egremont Plain now owned by Mrs. (missing) V. Brothers, and for many years known as the Frank Loomis place. Her father was well known hereabouts as Col. Loomis and was a surveyor. Mrs. Howe left here when a young girl with her parents and was married to Thomas Howe of Troy, N.Y., who was a building contractor. They resided in that city for some years, going later to Bridgeport, Conn., where Mr. Howe died a number of years ago. Since that time she has resided with her daughter, Mrs. T.B. Grippin, and had spent her summers in North Egremont for some time past. She was a remarkable woman in many ways and despite her unusual length of years had a splendid memory and was keen to up to date matters (sic). She had unusual physical endurance, making the trip to and from Bridgeport to North Egremont twice each year by automobile. Her last illness was only a short time with no special disease, simply old age. She died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. F.R. Gray, where she had been since last fall. The funeral was held from the latter home on Saturday afternoon, the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport officiating. The body was placed in the vault at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, awaiting burial in the spring beside her husband in Woodlawn Cemetery in Troy. Mrs. Howe’s survivors are two daughters, Mrs. T.B. Grippin and Mrs Adelle Stansfield, of Bridgeport; six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She made many friends in North Egremont village who will recall her memory with pride as one having so nearly rounded out the century of years in life’s journey. (Note cemetery name is incorrect.)
