SPC Russell Nahvi,24, of Arlington, Texas died in Balad, Iraq when his HMMWV was struck by enemy indirect fire during patrol operations. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia. He had joined the military in 2003 and was inspired to become a medic by a television series about soldiers. "He thought maybe Air Force, maybe Navy," mother Nancy Nahvi said. "But after he saw 'Band of Brothers,' the love for his fellow soldiers is what drove him into the Army." He was a 1999 high school graduate and studied at the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Tech University and Texas Christian University before deciding to enlist, his mother said. He also is survived by his father, Sam.
