Wilburn Hansel Stancil, age 86 of Birmingham, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 04, 2014. Mr. Stancil was a Baptist Deacon for more than 40 years; he was a member of the Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church; retired from Jefferson County; a veteran of the U.S. Army as Corporal and served two tours in Korea; a kind and loving father, grandfather and friend that will truly be missed by all that knew him. Mr. Stancil was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, June Stancil; eight brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his son, Randy (Susie) Stancil; two daughters, Barbara (Larry) Collins and Ruth (Michael) Christian; grandchildren, Brett and Matthew Collins, John and David Stancil, Rose Stancil Wilbanks, and Nick Christian; four great grandchildren; sister, Catherine Arnold of San Antonio , TX. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until funeral time.
