Arthur enlisted in the US Army 6 March 1961,
at a Baltimore Recruiting Office and served
in the Korea War and stated in the Army after
the war was over.
Arriving in Vietnam 16 September 1965 Arthur
was assigned to C Company,701st Maint.
Battalion,1st Infantry Division,USARV.
It was while the company was participating in
Operation Bushmaster II that SSgt McMellon
was hit on the hip with several pieces of
shrapnel from a hostile explosive detail and
died.
SSgt McMellon served his country for 14 years.
Survived by his wife,Jean O McMellon of 115
E 10th St,Junction City,KS and his mother;
Garnett McMellon of Route 2,Box 537,
Barboursville,WV.
