In 1483, after the death of Louis XI, Louis of Orleans asked for her hand. He intended to divorce his wife Jeanne, a daughter of the dead King, to marry Anne, but the regent Anne de Beaujeu, sister of the new king and of Louis of Orleans unloved wife, prevented that. She succeeded her father in 1488 and dismissed the council of regents to reign alone. In 1490 she married, Emperor Maximilian I, by proxy, but the pope dissolved the marriage later that year at her request, and she married King Charles VIII on December 6, 1491, and was crowned in February. In October 1492 she gave birth to a heir, Charles-Orland, and strengthened with this her role at the court and weakened the position of Anne and Pierre de Beaujeu. During Charles absence, in the war to gain the throne of Naples, she first suffered a miscarriage and then Charles-Orland died in Amboise. In the following years she gave birth to two other children that didn't even survive their first year. After Charles sudden death in 1498 she returned to her duchy, and Louis of Orleans became king. He immediately started the trial necessary for a divorce from his wife. In January 1499 she marries Louis in Nantes, three weeks after his divorce, and is again queen of France. In October she gives birth to their first daughter, Claude, who is going to be raised in Blois. On November 18, 1502, she is again crowned in Saint Denis. Eight years later she gives birth to a second daughter, Renée, who will later marry Hercule d'Este, son of Lucrezia Borgia. In 1508 and 1512 she bore two children who were weak and didn't survive their first months. She hoped and prayed for a boy that would be strong enough to live. She wanted to see her own son on the throne and not the son of Louise of Savoy, who she hated with passion. In 1506 Claude was engaged to Francois, son of Louise and successor to the french throne. Anne fought for the rest of her life to dissolved this engagement. She had no sucess and died in Blois in January 1514. Her body was buried in St. Denis and her heart in Nantes. Claude married Francois in May and Louis, surpising everyone, married his third wife, Mary Tudor, sister of Henry VIII in October. He died on January 1, 1515, nearly a year after his wife and was buried beside her.
