Army Pfc. Tyler R. MacKenzie, 20, of Evans, Colo.; was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky. He was killed Nov. 2 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee near Baghdad. He was born to David and Julie (Borland) MacKenzie. A lifelong resident of Greeley, Mr. MacKenzie graduated from Greeley West High School in 2003. He joined the Army on Jan. 19, 2005, and served with the B Company 1/502 In. 2 BOT. Fort Campbell. He was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a kind and caring soul, honest and sincere, had the utmost integrity, and was athletic, funny, self-competitive and unselfish. He loved playing videogames, reading, listening to music, playing paintball and volunteering. He loved animals and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors are his parents, David and Julie MacKenzie of Evans; a sister, Nicole Crawford and husband Jason of Evans; and his grandparents, Emmett and Mary MacKenzie and Ronald and Jenette Borland, all of Greeley. His great-grandmother, Mable Cawthra, and great-grandfather, Junior Cawthra, preceded him in death.
