Mr. Karle A. Mason, 72 , of Frederick, MD passed away, Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of his high school sweetheart Maridell Leonard Mason, they were married for 51 years.

Born on April 9, 1941 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Stanley Percy and Alice Rose Senecal Mason.

Master Sergeant Mason proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959-1979. During his unique career, MSG Mason served in Korea, Vietnam, Jordan, Germany, Maryland and Florida, where he was the first Non-commissioned officer to be assigned to the U.S. Strike Command (now Central Command). His final military assignment was in Brussels, Belgium where he was part of the U.S. Delegation to NATO Headquarters. MSG Mason's military awards include the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal.

Following his retirement from the military, he worked as an Internal Auditor for Suburban Propane until his retirement in 2006. Karle was an avid Fountain Pen and Knife Collector. He was a member of the NRA and was also a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project. Karle enjoyed traveling and was able to visit 49 of the 50 United States. Most importantly Karle will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and supported them in their numerous activities.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, son, Wayne Leslie Mason (LTC, USA retired) and wife MaryLee of Cypress, TX and their children Aubrey and Joshua; daughter, Deborah Lynn Brown and husband Scott of Mt. Airy and their children Nathan, Nicholas and Sophia; son, Timothy Leonard Mason and wife Andrea of Lutz, FL; brothers Robert Mason and wife Patricia and Ronald Mason and wife Martha.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his brother Richard Mason.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 11AM at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 1402 N. Main St., Mt. Airy. Dr. Michael Trammell will officiate.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
