According to Nora Tynan O'Mahony (in a letter to her sister
Frances, Monday, July 8 1942) Daniel Tynan was a protestant and an Artist of whom the Elder Cullens did not approve. After the death of his wife (and infant child: they died in Cholera epidemic) Daniel emigrated to Australia/New Zeland with his brother Francis and sister Honora, leaving Andrew to be raised by his Cullen grandparents.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. ANDREW TYNAN

The funeral of the most respected gentleman took place on
Saturday afternoon from his late residence, Whitehall,
Clondalkin, there was a large concourse of mourners. Most of
the relatives of the deceased were present. Mrs Kathleen
Hinkson, his daughter, was unfortunately not able to be
present. She is at present ill in France with an attack of
pneumonia. A Requiem Mass was said in the house of the mourning
by Father Richard Quinn of Bohernabreena.

The interment was at the family burial place, Tallagh, nearly
two miles distant from Whitehall. The hearse preceded the
coffin, which was carried along the beautiful country road on
the shoulders of stalwart friends of the deceased, some of whom
have been in his employment. The chief mourners were:- Messrs.
Felix Tynan (son), W. Swan, R. Swan, H. Swan, M. Tynan Flood,
and Felix Tynan jun. (grandsons) H. H. Hinkson and H. A.
Elliott (sons in law).
