John Ray "JR" Collins, Jr., age 77, of Houston, TX entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 20, 2014. He was born August 22, 1936 in St. Louis, MO. JR graduated from St. Thomas High School and from University of Houston with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering in 1968. JR served 3 years in the Army and then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers from 1962 -1964. JR began his career at Turner, Collie & Braden in 1968 and retired in 2002. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed yearly vacations with his family as well as walking, reading, and watching football.
JR is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Edith (nee Ankenbruck); daughters Theresa (Dennis), Mary (Larry), and Patricia (JJ); son Timothy (Kelly); 11 grandchildren; siblings Martha Hudson, Ken (Jacki) and Tom and numerous other loving relatives.
Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a Rosary beginning at 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2014, Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014, both services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft St., Houston, TX 77096. Rite of Committal will be at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in JR's honor to the St. Thomas More Building Fund or St. Thomas High School.
