Helen Hendrix York, 99, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on July 5, 1914 in Black Mountain, North Carolina, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Putnam) Buchanan. The family came to Washington in 1932.
Helen was united in marriage to Floyd Hendrix in 1935 and they made their home and raised their family at Minkler Lake east of Sedro-Woolley. Floyd passed away in 1967. She was then married to Wayne Messner for a short time until his passing in 1970. She later married Clyde York and they made their home in Bellingham for several years until his passing. Helen returned to Sedro-Woolley in 1980.
Helen loved traveling, flower gardening, her family and especially the Lord.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Jean DeWitt of Sedro-Woolley and Joan Parker of Lyman; 4 grandchildren, Julie Tingley (Rick), Kristen Nelson, Tawny Parker and Ericka Danielson (Don); 9 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy Buchanan and one sister, Lorraine Robideau.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Dallas Hendrix; granddaughter, Andra Deines; 3 brothers, Frank, Burgess and Arthur Buchanan; 2 sisters, Eva Hendrix and Winnie Martin and 2 sons-in-law, Gary DeWitt and Arnold Parker.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Bill Bates of Inspire Church (formerly Bethel Assembly of God) officiating. Visitation is available Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 5pm and on Friday from 9am to 1pm at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
