English Nobility. He was the only legitimate son of his illustrious father Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, and the nephew and heir of Ambrose Dudley, Earl of Warwick. He had the title Baron of Denbigh and was often referred to as the Noble Impe. Although he died at the age of three he is famous because of his ancestors and for the life he was expected to have led. His sumptuously carved alabaster tomb is decorated with the heraldic devices of the Earls of Leicester and Warwick, in testament to his father's hopes that his son would have one day become the heir to his family's legacy. There is a small suit of armour in Warwick Castle that purports to have been owned by the child. Although it may have been worn on parades it would mainly have been a symbol of inherited authority from father to son.
