When Robert Walker Day was born on April 28, 1849, in Pennsylvania, his father, Abraham, was 41 and his mother, Anne, was 39.

He had four brothers and two sisters: James Plummer Day (1831 – 1905), Josiah Williamson Day (1834 – 1920), Nancy Jane Day (1837 – 1871), Sarah Ann Day (1841 – 1874), Abraham Hutchinson Day (1846 – 1868), and Thomas Galbreath Day (1856 – 1875).

After his parents passed, his oldest sister, Nancy Jane Day Ashdown and her husband Henry Ashdown became his guardians.

He married Mary A. Love in 1880. They had two children during their marriage: Kitty A. Day who died at age 3 and Robert Love Gault Day.

Robert Walker Day was an inventor and travelling salesman selling his own invention. He died on February 16, 1926, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 76.
