James Leon Payne Sr., 57, of Bedford, VA, departed this life on Friday, February 7, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born November 5, 1956 to the late Arthur L. and Catherine Payne. He was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers. He was a member of Oakmulgee Baptist Church where he was a faithful choir member. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a dedicated employee of the former Golden West Foods and Brooks Food Group, and retired in 2013 from Trident Seafoods as Production Manager. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Emily Payne; two daughters, Malaka Payne, and Anitra Payne; one son, James Payne Jr.; adopted niece, Shemicka Staples; seven grandchildren, Mailk, Miles, Imahni, Tristan, Cameron, Milan, and James III; five sisters, Jean Ferguson, Mary Payne, Vickie (Billy) Gilmore, Rachel (John) Ballentine, and Constance (John) Race; three brothers, Bobby (Vicki) Payne, Charles Payne, and Joey (Carol) Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Oakmulgee Baptist Church, Bedford. Interment will follow at the Payne Family Cemetery. Friends may view Tuesday, February 11, 2014, after 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by Bedford Funeral Home.
