The family of Laurie Bass will forever celebrate the life of "Grammy". Laurie Elizabeth Palidar Bass passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 after a long illness. Her unique fire-cracker personality touched the lives of so many people and we will be forever grateful to her generous spirit. She lived a fulfilling life of gourmet meals, family outings, and special dinners. Laurie retired from Brentwood Hospital in 2011 where she enjoyed her job, co-workers, and patients for over 20 years. She pursued many restaurant businesses one of which was the Magnolia House of Ringgold, an antique bed and breakfast that she owned and operated from 1995 to 2003. Laurie is preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Palidar; father, Harry Palidar; brother, Keith Palidar; and beloved ex-husband, LJ Bass. She is survived by her two loving daughters and son-in-laws; son and daughter-in-law of Bossier City; her five grandchildren; special "step" daughter; granddaughter; as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Rose Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street in Shreveport. The family would like to thank Dr. Schuler and the wonderful staff at Pulmonary and Critical Care Specialists. A special thank you to all her Lake Bistineau friends. In lieu of memorials, she would only ask that you treat your family to a dinner of pizza and wine.

These writings by Laurie were printed on the program handed out at her Memorial Service:

A Promise to Myself - Written in 2010:
I made a promise to myself that if I were having a bad day, I would make it a good day,

I know I can only do that by doing something for someone else; a kindness or a service that cannot be paid back......only forward

For this, I may get a smile, a tear, a "thank you," or nothing at all......it does not matter

From the moment I turn my thoughts to others......it is my day that is blessed. -End-

And When I Die:
I've told my kids not to have a service for me; I've told all the people that I love how I feel about them and they know how you feel about me also. Just to get together and have pizza. The few friends I have away from here all know them and they can join them for pizza. Of course, I don't expect them to honor my wishes, they are rebellious, they don't drink, smoke, cuss, they love their spouses, they go to every event their kids are in, care for their parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and each other. I don't know where we went wrong. Today is enough about me. You've seen me through all of my life crises and lots of joy in living, and as you can see from this, I think enough of myself to carry me through.

Thank you all for being there, for being a friend and family and such an important part of my life. Love, Laurie -End-
