Earl Woodrow Whittington, 95, died Saturday February 15, 2014 in Weatherford, TX. He was a Sweeetwater, TX resident. Graveside services will be held at Roscoe Cemetery in Roscoe, TX.

Earl was born May 4, 1918 in Havana, Yell County, Arkansas. He was the third child of Perry Vartiman Whittington and Zetta Babb Whittington.

He graduated from Sweetwater High School. He worked in the CCC camps before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1941 during WW II. CPL. Earl W. Whittington spent four years of WWII with the Aircraft Assembly Squadron assembling gliders while stationed at Bizerte and Casa Blanca in North Africa, and then Naples, France near the battle of Salerno. Earl was discharged in October 1945.

He received a BS degree from Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy (1952), (now known as University of Texas at El Paso). He is a retired chemist, geologist, and heavy mechanic on diesel engines and gas line compressors. He was an active member and a High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry V. and Zetta (Babb) Whittington, 2 brothers, Enoch A. Whittington and Mack Larry Whittington, 4 sisters, Eula Beatrice Boyd Folsom, Elnor Ruth King, Joyce Ora May, and Emily Jeanette Boyer.

Pallbearers are Dennis Bingham, Wendell Whittington, Lee Whittington, Bob Boyd, Perry P King, and Ryan Rowley.

Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Boyer and Steven Fortenberry.

The family will receive friends at McCoy Funeral Home Friday, Feb 21, from 6 to 8 P.M.

Full military graveside rites will held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Roscoe Cemetery at 11 A.M. directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
