U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Washington College in 1839, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1841 and commenced to practice law in Washington, Pennsylvania. He was Washington District Attorney, in 1845 and elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving (1857-61). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
