Son of Soloman Nicoloan of England and Irma (Schubert) Nicoloan Couch of Germany; former step-son of John Eftihides (d. 1990).

He had served his country in the US Marine Corps, WWII (1946-1947) and the US Air Force - commissioned Officer in 1953 - Pilot for the USAF Strategic Air Command (SAC); served in the Vietnam War; his distinctions include WWII Victory Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal OLC, Air Medal 5 OLC, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 OLC, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 OLC; and retired after 24 years of military service as a Lt. Col.; he received Military Honors for his funeral by the US Air Force and Ohio Valley Veterans Honor Guard.
