On October 2, 1890, she married James Watson Benton.

Sarah Henry Benton was born in Fort Schuyler, New York, the daughter of Brigadier General Guy Vernon Henry and Frances Wharton Henry. She was the widow of James Watson Benton and resided at 111 East 72nd Street in New York City. She died on Monday, August 23, 1948, at the House of Mercy Hospital in Pittsfield, where she was spending the summer after a short illness. Her son, J. Webb Benton, who was the American consul at Lisbon, Portugal, died in October 1947. Survivors included her brother, Major General Guy C. Henry of Chevy Chase, Maryland and former commanding officer at the United States Military Academy at West Point and who was attached to the American Embassy as a military attaché to the Olympic Games in London. Arrangements were by M.J. Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Requiem high mass was said at St. Ann's Church in Lenox. Interment was in the Military Academy Cemetery at West Point.
