U.S. Congressman. Successful in agricultural pursuits, he studied law, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania. He was judge of York County, (1800-13) and elected as a Republican to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses, serving (1813-17). Shortly after leaving Congress, he died at the age of 48.
