U.S. Congressman. He attended the York County Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1828, and commenced to practice law in York, Pennsylvania. He was the prosecuting attorney of York County when elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses, serving 1851 to 1855. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
