U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale University in 1917, enlisted in the US Navy in 1918 and was in officer’s training school when World War I ended. He then entered Yale University Law School, graduated in 1921, was admitted to the bar and opened a law practice in North Haven, Connecticut, in 1926. He was on the town counsel, prosecuting attorney (1931-45) and a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives, (1947-52). In 1953, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-third Congress and to the next two succeeding Congresses, serving until 1959. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in the practice of law until his death at age 82.
