Eldest son of Peter and Sarah (Brunt) Ryle.

Reuben Ryle and his brother, William Ryle, were one of the largest exporters of silk in England during the 19th century. Their younger brother, John Ryle, was sent to America in 1839 and went on to establish himself as the "Father of the U.S. Silk Industry", establishing the first successful silk manufacturing firm in Paterson, New Jersey.
