U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1786, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Litchfield, Connecticut. Moving to New York, in 1793, practiced of law and was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1796-98). In 1779, he was elected as a Federalist to the Sixth and Seventh Congresses and served until he resigned in 1801. He then resumed the practice of law until his sudden death at age 37.
