LAWNDALE — Mrs. Alma Roberta Smawley Bridges, 104, of Lawndale, died Sunday, Oct. 9. 2005, at Crawley Memorial Hospital. Born April 5, 1901, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Montgomery Smawley and Nancy Elizabeth Whisnant Smawley. She was a well-known and highly skilled seamstress. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lawndale, where she was a former choir member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Palmer Bridges; a granddaughter, Ann Elizabeth Davis; two brothers, Theodore Smawley and Myles Smawley; and three sisters, Ola Bridges, Ruth Champion and Irene Mauney. She is survived by a daughter, Pat Davis and husband, Ben, of Lawndale, and a brother, John Smawley of Lawndale. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Lawndale, with the Rev. Marti Halliburton officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Lawndale, P. O.
