Musician, Composer, Producer, and Musical Director. He was considered as one of the architects of the Motown sound. He is known for his work in (1972) Lady Sings the Blues, Diana Ross Live! The Lady Sings... Jazz & Blues, (1992) Stolen Moments (conductor/music arranger) and (1975) composer for Mahogany. He played as a jazz trumpeter for almost 25 years before going to Motown records as a musical director for many well-known acts, including the Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and many others. In 1972 he received an Academy Award nomination (Best Music, Original Song Score and Adaptation) for Lady Sings the Blues (film).
