US Congressman. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he graduated from Duquesne University Pittsburgh, learned the pressman's trade and was employed on the City Pittsburgh newspapers, (1914-36) During World War I, he served in Europe, as a Private 1st Class, in the US Army, (1918-19). After the war, he was a delegate to the Pittsburgh Central Labor Union, (1920-40) and a member of the Allegheny County Board for the Assessment and Revision of Taxes, (1936-41). In 1941, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh and Seventy-eighth Congresses, serving until 1945. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he returned to be a member of the Boards of Viewers of Allegheny County, until his death at age 59 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
