Mr. Ness retired in 1984 from Kenneth R. Stoltzfus Home Builders after 25 years of employment as a finishing carpenter. After retirement he was a self-employed carpenter until 1997.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Glen Rock, where he was a past trustee and member of the Sunday school.
He also was a member of the South Central York County Senior Citizen Center, New Freedom; helped to deliver Meals on Wheels in the southern York County area for many years; and was a member of Austin L. Grove American Legion Post 403, Glen Rock; White Rose VFW Post 556, York; and Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Fire Co.
Born in Shrewsbury Township Nov. 26, 1922, he was a son of the late Spurgeon A. and Katie I. Stine Ness.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Gladys R. Good Ness; two sons, Ronald K. Good of Ephrata, Lancaster County, and Dennis A. Good of Franklin, Tenn.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, six sisters, Mary Bupp of Glen Rock, Grace Beck of Trappe, Treva Bond of Red Lion, Doris Ratliff of Kernersville, N.C., Donna Mae Ness of Spring Grove and Jean Raffensberger of New Freedom; seven brothers, Leroy Ness of Roseville, Mich., Norman Ness of York Haven, Donald Ness of York, Paul Ness of Middletown, Dauphin County, Ray Ness of Aspers, Adams County, and Barry Ness and Glenn Ness, both of Glen Rock.
Viewing is 7 to 9 p.m. today at Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. The service is at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Jacqueline Starz, officiating.
Burial is in Union Cemetery.
