US Congressman. Born in County Roscommon, Ireland, he immigrated as a young man to the Brooklyn, New York, became active in the construction business and operated his own company, P. J. Carley & Sons. He was also involved in banking and several civic causes, including support of the Bay Ridge Memorial Hospital. In 1927, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventieth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1935. Not a candidate for re-nomination , he resumed his construction business until his death at age 70 in Brooklyn, New York.
