SGT. REGINA REALI
Sgt. Regina Reali, a civil affairs specialist assigned to the U.S. Army's Reserve's 351st Civil Affairs Command, died tragically in Baghdad, Iraq on Friday, December 23, 2005, at the age of 25.
Gina was born in Berkeley, CA, on December 18, 1980, and relocated to Fresno, where she lived for the last 20 years.
She graduated from Fresno High School in 1999, and joined the Army Reserves in July of 2000.
Gina was deployed to Iraq this summer and promoted to Sergeant in November. She was scheduled to return from Iraq in May and had about a year left in the service. Displaying extraordinary heroism, Gina tragically gave her life in the line of duty.
This painful loss of such an outstanding human being will forever affect the hearts of those who loved her. This is a devastating loss for her family, friends, and for this country.
Gina was a remarkable, extremely intelligent woman with a huge heart. She had the energy and enthu- siasm that drew friends toward her, and a loving and caring quality that kept them near. She was full of life and would do anything for anyone - no matter what and with no questions asked. Even at the tender age of 25 she was mature and was always looking out for the wellbeing of others, especially the two men in her life - her father Richard, and older brother Paul.
Gina has received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and the Combat Action Badge.
Gina is survived by her father, Richard Reali of Atwater; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Priscilla Reali; and nephew and niece Michael and Julianna of San Diego.
She is also survived by her dear friends, Rachel Cole and Forrest Williams; as well as by many other loving relatives and friends.
Gina will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her enthusiastic and caring spirit will live on in the hearts of all those she touched in her 25 years.
A Funeral Service will be held at Northwest Church on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Belmont Memorial Park.
