Lillian attended Bullet Hill School, Southbury CT and Woodbury High School, Woodbury CT. In 1935 she received an A.B. in Political Science from Brown University, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. In 1938, she received a MA in Political Science from the University of Virginia. In the 1960's she received a MS in Library Science from Simmons College. Before marriage, Lillian worked two years at the Hillside School in CT, then five years at Mississippi State College for Women, Columbus MS, as Assistant Professor of Political Science. Following marriage in 1946, the family lived in Vermont, Tennessee, Kansas, New York, and Illinois. In Rockford IL, Lillian resumed teaching English and American History at Auburn High School. In 1961, Lillian began a long career at Thayer Academy, first as a teacher, then as Head Librarian. Lillian researched and wrote Thayer Academy- One Hundred Years for Thayer's centennial in 1977-78. This work founded the Thayer Archives. Following retirement in 1978, Lillian worked part-time as Director of Publications and Public Relations. Following her second retirement in 1987, she continued volunteer work as head archivist until a few weeks before her death. Lillian is survived by her children.
