Rock Musician. A drummer, he will be best remembered for his contributions to such classic songs as Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" (1965) and Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" (1965). Born Robert Grego in Philadelphia, he was inspired by jazz music and learned the drums at an early age. He acquired experience as a member of Paul Whitman's Orchestra during the 1950s and was later a member of the ensemble Steve Gibson and the Red Caps. In 1963 under the Epic label, he released the solo album "Let's Stomp and Wild Weekend" and in 1965, he briefly replaced Levon Helms as the drummer for Bob Dylan's backing band "The Hawks" (who would go on to become "The Band"). Among the other artists Gregg worked with include "Peter, Paul and Mary" and John Cale. After his recording career, Gregg went on to become a successful producer.
