Gene Bardell Bodwell, 73, passed away on Friday, July 17th, 2009 at his residence with his dearest friends at his side. Gene was born on the cold winter morning of January 15, 1936 in an oilfield cabin in Pershing, Oklahoma to Cecile Cull Bodwell and Edward "Bud" Bodwell. As an only child, Gene served as a faithful son particularly to his mother who often referred to him as the "apple of her eye." After a short time in Oklahoma and Kansas, Gene's family settled in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1944 where he attended both grammar and high school. Gene lived a full and an adventurous life serving as both a professional entertainer and an educator. From an early age his unusual talent and fantastic vocals led him to stages all over the country. He was a versatile singer, covering a spectrum from country western, popular and rock to religious, in addition to his own compositions which he was most proud. He also fascinated everyone with his spectacular "yodeling" and his ability to play the guitar. As an educator, he was affectionately called "The Singing School Teacher" where he impacted thousands of students encouraging them to uncover their talent and passion in the arts. Gene B. Bodwell received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Texas A & I in Kingsville. Additionally, Gene also served honorably in the United States Air Force. Gene will be missed dearly, though we are confident he is performing on a greater stage in heaven for his mother. He is preceded in death by his loving mother Cecile Cull Bodwell and father Edward "Bud" Bodwell. He is survived by his faithful friends, Laura Mitchell and Eckhard Walk and so many others. He is also survived by his cousin William McCabe.

A special thank you to Dr. Chodosh and Dr. Choi, the staff at Bay Area Hospital and the emergency team of Mathis, Texas . A funeral service will be conducted at 1pm on Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 at First United Methodist Church Sanctuary will the viewing and visitation one hour prior to the service.
