Sallie, the youngest child of Peter Green Lankford and Sarah Ann Hammack of Fort Payne,Alabama. Siblings were sister, Cordelia H., brothers, Jefferson Davis Lankford and Robert A. Lankford. Her mother died in 1866 in Dekalb County,Alabama and is buried in the Lankford Cemetery in Fort Payne. After mother's death, her father remarried and departed for parts unknown sometime between 1866 and 1870 DeKalb County census leaving her and her two brothers with maternal grandparents, Willoughby Sanders Hammack and Nancy Ann Portress.
