Swanson Beavers, 76, of Tazwell, Va., went to be with the Lord Monday, May 19, 2014, with his family at his bedside.

He was born January 9, 1938, in Jolo, West Virginia, son of the late Arthur "Bus" Beavers and Mary Hagerman Beavers, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Hobart Beavers;and a sister, Kate Smith.

Swanson was a member of Laurel Fork Baptist Church, where he served as choir director and treasurer and had currently served as a deacon. He was a retired Post Master of Rocky Gap and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He loved playing the guitar, singing and riding horses.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife, Sue; three daughters, Kim and Junior Stowers, Pam and Greg Havens, of Bland, and Lisa and Shawn Stewart of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Walter and Paddy Beavers of Wytheville, Newt and Jean Beavers of Jewel Ridge, and Rufus Beavers of High Point; one sister, Maxine and Ray Robinson of Lynchburg; grandchildren, James Stowers, Joseph and Krista Stowers, Colton Havens, Rheann Havens, Taylor Stewart-Beavers, and Lainey Stewart, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Laurel Fork Baptist Church where the Reverend Robert Walker and the Reverend Joe Ladden officiated. Graveside services were held Thursday 3 p. m. at the Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va. Tazewell VFW Post #7136 conducted graveside military rites. The family received friends Wednesday, May 21, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the church. In lieu flowers, donations may be made to Laurel Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 289, Rocky Gap, VA 24366.
