US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served Kansas' 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1971 until 1975. Raised on a farm in Illinois, he attained his medical degree from Northwestern University and served with the United States Air Force. Following his discharge, he practiced medicine in Topeka, Kansas and in 1970, he received a law degree from Washburn University. During his tenure in Congress, he focused on issues regarding health care. Additionally, he wrote a column for the Topeka Capital-Journal. He died of complications following heart surgery.
