U.S. Senator. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1885, moved to Nebraska in 1888, was Nebraska State Engineer, (1895-96) and city engineer of Omaha, (1896-97). During the Spanish-American War, he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Nebraska State Senate, (1902-04), a member of the Omaha Metropolitan Utilities District, (1904-23) and general manager of the Metropolitan Utilities District, (1912-23). He also served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve, (1917-23) and was chairman of the radio commission, U.S. Post Office Department, in 1921. In 1923, he was elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate and served until his death.
