Army Pfc. Sims was assigned to the 549th Military Police Company, Fort Stewart, Georgia. Sims drowned in a swimming pool during his recreation time. A piece of candy lodged in his throat so he could not breathe. He panicked and went under; by the time they cleared his airway it was too late. Charles always wanted to be in the Army and enrolled in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in ninth grade. He was a soft-spoken individual who graduated in 2002 from Miami-Carol City High School and enlisted in the Army about two months after finishing high school.Private First Class Charles Marques Sims, 18, died while bravely serving our country, in Iraq. His Celebration of Life Service was held on October 18, 2003 at Antioch Baptist Church. Grace Funeral Home.
