She was born in Bryant, IL on May 6, 1940 to Helen L. (Smith) and Clyde N. Laird. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carol married her soul mate, Jerry Ellis in Canton on February 29, 1980. He survives, along with a daughter, Susan (Gene) Taffar of Canton; a son, Scott Ellis, of Canton; grandchildren, Paige Leanne Ellis and Spencer Scott Ellis, both of Canton; and a cousin, Marge Weaver of Peoria, who was like her only sister.
She attended Bryant Grade School and graduated from Lewistown High School.
She worked at Lairds Family Owned Florist and Greenhouses from 1951 until 1982. She also owned Carol's Corner Florist in Thomson, IL.
Carol also worked for Graham Hospital in Canton, Schaffer's Florist in Clinton, IA, Mercy Hospital in Clinton, IA, Walter's Florist in Canton, and State Farm Insurance in Canton.
The Bryant Methodist Church was a large part of her life until moving away.
She was a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, Ever-Ready Circle Club, and Ladies Aid Club.
Her hobbies were, spending time with family, cooking, photography, winning many blue ribbons in contests, publishing short stories and poetry, scrapbooking, dancing, boating, fishing, camping, and traveling. She also loved home decorating, loving her pets, and making sweet memories with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, June 13th from 6 to 8 pm at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton where the service will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 11:00 am.
Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Animal Shelter in Canton or Renal Disease Foundation.
