Saint Boniface (c. 672 - 5 June 754), the Apostle of the Germans, born Winfrid or Wynfrith at Crediton in Devon, England, was the most important missionary and church reformer in the Frankish Empire during the 8th century. In addition, he was archbishop in Mainz. He was martyred near Dokkum in Frisia.
